Description Of Area:
A region not yet well-known to the average visitor to France, the beautiful Lot valley is now emerging as one of the hidden gems of South-west France. Welcoming people and delightful countryside where high, wild plateau are slashed by dramatic canyons and river valleys, the grandest being the river Lot itself. It’s a warm, glowing land of truffles and goats’ cheese, of lively and colourful markets, and of picturesque villages of turrets and dovecotes. With a different vineyard, around every corner, including a few famous names, ideal for sampling the full-flavoured robust Cahors wine.
Puy-l’Evêque, an extremely beautiful town of medieval origins, built literally onto the side of a steep riverside cliff, is only 5 minutes drive away; and the bustling market town of Prayssac only 10 mins. A little over half an hour away is the historic capital town of Cahors, which has the oldest fortified bridge in Europe, the Pont Valentré, and the earliest, moorish style, domed cathedral in France.
